i have only owned this car for month or so, but unless I am really pushing the car (i.e. normal driving) I am in 3rd gear at around 35 mph. I am at around 3.5k revs at 10-15 mph in first gear. I was also told these cars really don't like to be rev'd passed 4500. Thoughts on that?

The M20b25 engine was designed for extended high speed operation. On the street the sweet spot is between about 4k and 5.5k. On the track you want to keep the engine above 5k for best performance. Extended operation at low rpm is bad for the engine as it will tend to gunk up due to lower temperatures.
About the only time I let the engine speed drop below 4k on the street is when decelerating for a stop or yield.The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
