I got it started today. I replaced with fusable link with an inline fuse from my stereo and it started up just fine. The fuse is removable so it will be easier to fix if it ever blows again.

Let's drive fast and have fun.

This seems like a pretty piece of equipment - what do I need to do to repair it?
Is the fusable link in the trunk? Is it shrink wrapped?

What does it look like when it's broken? Does the white "stick" physically break or does it break internally?

I need to know this as well....I found the fuse but I cant tell if its damaged or not.

TJ...did you just cut out the intire fusable link and wire in a new fuse?

edit: can I fix it with solder?

good you got it fixed.. My e30 got broke into a few months ago, smashed window. I had my ipod out in the open and faceplate on the cd player, glovebox unlocked, no security lock on, no ignition imobilizer, 700 bucks of tools in the trunk, a spare key to the doors in the g/b and 100 pair of oakley perscription sunglasses.

all they took was the ipod, couldnt get the cd player out (yay for pioneer needing the removal tools). I know how you feel.

You can make it work but I wouldn't recommend it. I think the fuse isn't too bad of an idea........

                      Where in NC are you?

I live in Mocksville, its right outside clemmons but Im always in winston/gboro. How would I go about using the other fuse though? Do I want to cut the old link out and wire the new fuse in?

I know Mocksville. I went to school in Greensboro.

I don't see why you couldn't just cut the link out and solder (really well) a large inline fuse in it's place. You just want to make sure you have a good solid, sturdy, connection.

Paul, I just snipped the old link out (cut it really close, there isn't a lot of excess wire) and then I use done of those inline fuses that are used in stereo systems. All you do is slide the wire in and then a set screw holds it together. Will make it easier to fix if it ever blows again.
