strange ive got a 3.73 and ive hit 115 in 4th before the limiter cut me off

ive gotta test out this theory kuz i hacked out my cruise control unit a while back so in theory i should have no more limiter if i understand correctly

Your speed cut is determined by your ECU, not your cruise control.

Reviving an old one. I have held a 130 for a few miles on my 89 ix auto. Took awhile to hit it Out on a flat desert highway at 4500'. Not bad for a 22 yo car I bought for $1200. I am running 205/50-16 which are a little taller than stock.

Never been able to max mine out with the s50. I keep running out of traffic free road or track length. Not even sure what the gearing/tire combo puts it at. Should be in the 160-165 range which it is capable of.

              My old E30 M50 with a getrag 260 and a 3.73 stopped at 152mph indicated.

Which is very impressive and extremely scary lol

Holy old thread batman! I have to shift into 4th at 100, 125 came on fast in 4th, but never pushed more. Just wanted to see after the top end swap after finishing - 2.7i with 2.93 & g260.

                  ^Yeah... '07, wtf.

I've gone past 7000rpms with a black box ECU (not 173), but never in 5th. I've hit 120 on the freeway, but slowed down because of traffic. I'll report back if I can go past 125.

                  Car is a 2.7i with a S3.73. Not sure if I have a G240 or G260.

Sometimes you just gotta bump the oldies! My e36 takes it merry time getting up past 140 even with m50 manifold, s52 cams, intake, exhaust, software and 3.15 diff. e30 is a different story lol.

These days it's more about how fast you can get to 60 anyways.

I've gone 105 in my 318i and I won't go past that. It's fully capable to, new wheel bearings, refreshed drive train, new tires, new coilovers and suspension bits, new tie rods, new control arms, and aligned for high speed stability courtesy of my camber plates. That all being said it's nice to cruse at 90 on the highway and the E30 be as smooth as glass and stable doing it. :)

...because sometimes, the old crusty threads are still useful. And we keep learning shit.

My 9/90 524 ecu'd car has a speed limiter. But James and I looked at the back of the
cluster, and there are no wires going into the green connector- the limiter's being
tripped by the vss signal into the ECU directly.
It hits at 125 indicated on the speedo, and wants you to see down a few hundred RPM
before it gives you the motor back.

                            t
now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

Pull pin 14 on the c101. The M1.3 really doesn't need the VSS input, I have run it stand alone in a friend's m20 powered 2002 that was bare bones. There was only a few wires that needed to make it start, run and charge.

                                dang, old thread!

uhm, there's no wire from the green connector that goes to the DME. that was some bad information that was posted... 8 years ago! The only VSS wire that goes to the DME comes from I think C2 and goes through the C101, pin 14 as ForcedFirebird says.

I think I pulled a green wire of some sort back in the day to try and eliminate the limiter, but it didn't work.. but that was because there is no green wire that carries a VSS signal. :p

BTW, the 125mph limit was still present with my 2.8 stroker. It's not with MS3.
