    Cylinder head question

While changing my oil pan yesteday, I noticed this, something I'd never seen before. It's right in between where the spark plug wires plug in.

    Anyone know what this means?

It shows the displacement options of the head.

Awesome, thanks so much for clearing that up for me. :D

Thanks for the quick response, too.

That is interesting. Never noticed it on my car. So if its applicable to the 2.5 and 2.7, I'm guessing this means the "i" motors and the Super Eta motors?

I guess so since josh's car is an 88 and they made super etas in 88. That means that his cylinder head could be for either the 2.5 or the 2.7. I know mine says 2.7 on it somewhere i think it even says eta but im not sure

The cylinder head on my car WAS changed a few years back, it's possible that a super-eta head casting was used.

And my car is an 89.

Your head could of been replaced with one of those spanish AMC Castings. I'd look to see if you see AMC cast anywhere on the side.

                  84-87 ETA "2.7 ETA" rectangular
                  87-88 325 and 325i/iS "2.5" circular
                  89-91 325i/iS "2.5 - 2.7" circular

That's how they originally were. Of course, by now there's a good chance you'll see an 87-88 with the later head.
