S14 in a 318? If I were to take on such a project, I would look for a clean and straight '84 or '85 318i 2-door. Why? A curb weight of 2300-2400 lbs......that's why. Do a Euro bumper conversion, proper suspension and brakes, and then a built S14. The combination of the lighter chassis with a light and powerful engine will make for on quick ass car.

Of course, an undertaking like this will set you back a healthy chunk of change. The financially meek need not apply.

I have a friend in Jersey who put a euro S50B30 in his 318Ti. His M44 has like 60K miles on it and I know he's willing to sell it cheap. Let me know if you want me to forward his number to you.

and your saying the 92 318is m42 has more power than the 91 318is m42?

The M44 is the upgraded M42. Not even sure if you can convert that to the E30.
I believe it's the other way around. The M44 is BMW's Accounting Dept. Special--poorly setup (cast crank, unbalanced bottomend).

I thought it was the M40 with knock sensors. :? Those funky 4 bangers are all mixed up.
              Im now E30less.

so going to a 92 m42 would give me a little more power?

                  *Raises hand*

Actually its a full s14 engine, not a m10/s14 head hybrid like some people thought. And yes i bought the car with the swap already done.

m50 swap is not that bad if you have all the parts in advance. the m42 would be a good up grade.

bad oil pump spured my little swap as well

So take the word chrome out.

My point rings just as loud.
