M30 AFM is plug and play.

        AFM is the flapper

        Maf is the tube.

For 500$ you could go full megasquirt and get twice the power gain.

I know 3 people with the miller MAF.. complete waste of money. it isn't even really plug and play. I'm glad they're trying to develop stuff for our old cars, but a MAF is a complete waste of time. same with M30 AFMs. ;)

Wait a sec... so if I build my motor IE; stroke, hone, extrude, port, polish, use the right rockers, 273 cam, new valves (mainly exhaust), Long tube headers, bigger tb... your saying a barn door is just as good as a MAF with a piggyback OS?
              You sure about that?

In that case you want full stand alone, not a hacked up maf and a chip made for an engine completely different from yours. and you'll probably be using MAP, which is even less restrictive than MAF. ;)

Rs4pro3 builds them for around that price - but as a system, you will also need a wideband ($200) and a laptop for tuning at minimum. that's not including other mods like wasted spark (which is pretty cheap). I get old thinkpads with serial ports for $200, they fit perfectly under the passenger seat of an E30. ;)

as a bare minimum I would budget $800 for standalone EMS. REAL gains in power can't be had for nothing on these cars..

Ahhh good point. Standalone and a MAP. That's the ticket. Sorry I ever doubted you!

Ya like Chris mentioned it's about $800-$1000 for everything needed to run mega squirt. And ya my setups are $550 for ms1 and $650 for ms2 with just the basic options to run a stock 325i engine. I used to have a MAF swap on my 2.7, but megasquirt is so much better, as you have way more control over what a piggyback controller would give you.

I'm intrested in the MS. Ive had a aem wideband laying around for a few years now.

But honestly, what kind of gains do I stand to gain with MS??? For $1k its gotta be atleast 25-30rwhp.

                            Thanks,
                            M

You'll get slightly better HP gains then a chip, but also will get way better throttle response as you'll be removing the restrictive AFM in the intake tract.
