How to Correctly Wire an Electric Fan?

I just received my fan in the mail today...I'd like to put it in but am a little cautious as I'm no wiring expert. In fact I suck at it.

Can someone guide a wiring retard through this? Do I need a relay for this? It only draws 12 amps...learn me please

I use relays for my electric fans.

There should be two wires that went to your old electric fan for the AC system. Just splice those in and you are set. Make sure you check to see which direction the fan spins. If it spins the wrong way, reverse the wires.

Why go through all the trouble of new wires/relays etc, when they are already there.

Do this and add a manual switch, maybe even be really cool and use an emergency flasher button above the radio.

Make it light up when the fan is on, even on automatic mode.

Haha...I love the enthusiasm but my a/c fan wasn't blown. I checked fuse 18,19 and 20 (flame suit on) and not 3. 3 was blown. New 15amp fuse and problem solved.

Now what to do with the new fan?

Attached to the A/C fan in front of your radiator. Only problem with using these as they are is that the a/c needs to be on for the fan to come on, you will need to wire it to a coolant temp sensor, or b+ with ignition on (latter will be on with key, though).

it's already wired to a coolant temp switch. you only need to change it to one that turns on at a lower temp - 80/88c instead of 90/99c. And the AC doesn't need to be on for the thermoswitch to activate the fan - I don't even have AC.

for the life of me I can't comprehend why everyone makes this so complicated! swap out a $20 part, make sure the fan actually works and you are done.

oh ok, i don't have A/C in mine, it's a M30 swapped one so it didn't fit. perhaps i could still connect to these wires and turn on the a/c whenever i need it. anyone have past experience with this way? or is this too beaner rigged?

Odd. I used the a/c fan to cool the m50 swap just finished up in my friends car, and as long as that little blue light is on near the a/c controls, the fan is on, otherwise it doesn't come on...

Oh yeah, it also doesn't have a/c (just the controls) since the custom compressor lines haven't been built yet.

Well turn on the a/c controls and see if the fan comes on, if it does, problem solved.

you need the lower temp thermoswitch, the stock one doesn't turn on the low speed until 90c, and if your low speed resistor is burned out it won't come on until 99c.
