I was at my mechincs the other day and a 325ic was in with a smashed sump. He said it mostly happens when the front shocks are worn out and the suspension travels more than it was designed to. This cars sump got cracked when the owner went over a speed bump a bit quickly. It also snapped an engine mount and one of the arms connecting the engine to the mount in 2!
The front shocks on this particluar car were so bad the oil was leaking out of the struts - probably the original shocks.

I've never hit anything on my sump, doesnt even have a scratch on it and my car its pretty low.

If the headers come in then it goes in the hole today.

schmick325, yeah for most M20s its pretty hard to smash the sump, you really need to be going fast or like you said the shocks are blown. The problem lies in the S50 swap where we move the sump to the very front and it hangs a bit lower. The only M20 guys to break thiers were slammed to the ground.

I am glad to hear it covers the S50 sump though, I wouldnt want to damage what I just invested a LOT of money in.

My skidplate bolts to the bottom of the subframe(although you have to add some nutserts), and bolts to th unibody/frame channels at the front(again with nutserts).

                            sorry for the giant pictures...

Ok, cool. Thanks. Did you have to drill the holes to mount it, or were they already there?

We need to get as much info on them as we can, we are going to custom fab one or two for mine and my wife's E30's, but much smaller and more lightweight.
