    question on draining coolant

i'll be flushing and changing the coolant on my m20 this weekend, for the first time since i've had my e30.. i can see the drain bolt on the engine block, but it's not easy to get to.. im thinking of removing the drain plug from the radiator and then running the engine till coolant no longer flows.. is this OK? will it drain ALL the coolant?

    thanks..

it would get all the coolant out.... but you would be running your engine with no coolant in the head..... temeratures will rise way above ok levels in a mater of seconds

make sure to set all heater controlls to MAX before you drain and bleed the coolant..

                yes i will, thanks..

i dont see how running my engine for a very short period, say less than 1 minute without coolant can hurt it. cars with leaks in their cooling system run for quite a much longer period, even with the temp needle reaching the red zone without any damage at all..
