maybe just lengthen the hose and put it in the battery tray if you dont have a battery there.

Cap the water pump small outlet (or use a late model pump) and use the tee hose on the driver side from a late model (goes from themo housing to heater core and expansion). This will enable you to use a late model, or aftermarket expansion tank on the driver side while leaving the rest of the system stock.

+1 on the late model cooling system conversion.
Bonus of the late setup for turbo setups is that you can then run a z3m radiator if you feel the need to upgrade.

This is what I did. 1" heater hose from the parts store. I plan to do a late-model conversion eventually but this works in a pinch.
I should have made standoffs to actually mount it to the battery tray, at present it is just sitting there. I normally have a heat shield mounted as well to protect it from heat from the downpipe.

That's how a late model taps the system for the expansion tank. The early models have a hose coming off the water pump.

It is, always has been. If you are not using a heater core, you can just close off the back of the head and use a straight hose from the thermostat housing to expansion tank and nix the tee.
