    NEED IMMEDIATE HELP! subframe bushings

    heres what im dealing with:


    the rubber is completely separated from the center sleeve.

    I rented the subframe bushing removal/installation tool and started the process this AM. Problem: after unbolting everything and then prying the subframe from the car on one side, instead of the entire bushing releasing off the car, the rubber gave out and left the center metal sleeve still stuck. how the hell do i get it off? its been PB blasting and soaking for hours now, banging at the end sideways with a hammer, it wont budge and now there is no weight from the subframe to pull it down. HELP! cant heat it up, the gas tank/lines are too close.

    rent a 3-jaw puller, rip it out with that?

      Damn that looks nasty. I can send a replacement subframe with Turk if you want he is driving to Milwaukee tomorrow. Should be there Friday.

        screw a lagg bolt 1/2" , 5/8" ? into the sleeve from the bottom. Go into interior remove seat etc. insert steel rod in sleeve an hit with BFH...

          we ended up doing this, twice. first time i did a really hard dead blow, and it tore the aluminum sleeve and broke the bolt. second time i used softer hits and it inched out. ill post a pic when im done working.

            thanks for the offer, but its all better now. really wanted to avoid dropping the entire rear end. the bushing was the only thing that got damaged.

              Good you got it. Just saw this post. Lag bolt is how I got mine out also. Hope the tool works out.

                  I air chiselled mine out. The impact and material removed made it just drop out after about 30 seconds.

                    use a lil bit of heat that might help as well...just dont light the bitch on fire

                      not a change i was lighting a torch that close to the fuel tank/lines/pump, especially with all the PB blaster everywhere.

                      thanks. tool worked great! honestly if the subframe bushings would just drop out, this job could take 30min/side with the tool. you dont have to disconnect anything but the subframe bushing to gain enough room.

                        When I did mine I put a chisel in to the shaft from the bottom and hit it from side to side and it worked out. It was a bitch and broke but. It came out

                          Yeah, the tool does work awesome and that's why I decided to rent it out. The price I set it is cheap enough that you save so much time with it but I am surprised it takes some time between rentals. Glad it worked out.

                            here's the carnage:



                            for anyone who has this problem in the future, i simply used a drill to put a hole through the bottom of the mount and sunk a hex wrench through it (obviously). then took a 3/8 socket with long extension and dropped it into the subframe bolt hole under the back seat and pounded it out carefully. the first attempt, i took a BFH and struck the extension as hard as i could and it just ripped through the aluminum sleeve.

                              I am not familiar at all with the rear subframe bushings, I haven't spent any time under that end of the car. Is it a problem that the sleeves ripped?
