Sounds similar to what was happening in my ex's e46, you go to slow down or speed up and it would make a clunking sound, took to the stealer and they put a new tranny in it. No more clunking last I heard.

yeah i think i have the same. I jack up the back and turned the wheels back and forth with the car in gear and it seems to be a little slop in the tranny. my low milage e36 does it too

Check your center support bearing . the rubber might be giving out .

i have had the same problem the whole time i've owned the car, and recently it has also gotten a Nasty vibration at any moderate or higher load in 1st/2nd gear. i tend to think they're related, and i'm guessing either CSB (which looked fine less than a month ago when i did a clutch job) or u-joints

From your description, more than likely the csb.

I've used numerous different CSBs and it never changed anything, plus this one is like 6 months old and was installed properly.

I also have clunking from the rear end, it sounds like its coming from the right wheel in particular, and gets louder when I turn right, quieter when I turn left. Its also speed dependent and has been getting worse over the last few days. Is this likely to be a CV?

Might also be a wheel bearing.

Mine is doing it too. It happens whenever I let out the clutch or pop the throttle.

i have this noise too. it seems to go away when i am alittle slow in letting out the clutch and in higher gears. it's really bad with throttle modulation (light or off and on) at low speeds, and it's worse because i have a schrick cam, ITB's, and a not completely dialed in ARC2-a:crazy: . i didn't know what to check, now i at least know where to start

                              hmm, for reals?

i was just thinking friday night how it's no so bad now, although it was horrible in June (ask Sean/Trevor, it was apparant) but since then I've replaced my old worn stock tranny mounts with BW upgraded ones. . . . .

EVERYTHING driveline related in my car has been replaced (clutch, flex disc, CSB) as well as all rear suspension compenents (RSMs, subframe bushings, trailing arm bushings, all new suspension)

THE ONLY thing I have NOT replaced is the bushing in the diff itself. I only get this cluck if I FLOOR the car while coasting in third gear, or a similar situation. Say I'm movin about 45...in third gear, and I floor it - I hear a nice "thunk" in the rear.

Personally, i think it's just give in my differential. My diff mount was solid, so I can't see that causing the thunk noise. It just has to be those diff gears ingaging really quickly when I floor it, after there's been no pressure on the gears inside it for a little bit. (is this hard to understand? cause I can explain in further detail)

                                Anyone else?
