Cost of powdercoating subframes and trailing arms??

Hey guys-I'm thinking about having my subframes and trailing arms powdercoated. Any idea on the cost?

Easiest way would be calling up some local shops and getting a quote. I know some of the places around here will offer a discount if you can wait until a large batch goes through. That depends on the color and type of powdercoat you want, obviously.

I would consider POR-15 or equivalent as another option as well.

They need to remove the old powder coating first, which is sort of a bitch. Most shops can burn it off of steel parts, but it gets them up to like 900 degrees which I would maybe worry about it annealing the steel. So, chances are that you'd ask them to blast it off. That adds labor.

My guess would be $250, all said and done. I had an aluminum bike frame coated and they had to use aircraft stripper on the original paint. It cost me $125.

Just remember that they still need to heat everything to ~450 degrees to bake the coating. You will need to remove/replace the wheel bearings and stuff. Do not have ANYTHING on there except the steel. Anything that can't take high heat won't do well.

Whenever I've had stuff coated I've had to have it media blasted first. I don't think I'd want my suspension pieces heated to 900° and cooled arbitrarily. Uncontrolled heating/cooling changes the crystalline structure of the metal and could weaken it.

My vote is for POR15 or standard chassis paint.
