    IX specific brakes?

I recently purchased a 91 ix and she is i dire need of brakes.. before i go buying new stuff i was wondering i could use the brakes off my 89 parts car? The brakes only have a few thousand miles on them and if i could even use a few parts that would help..

only the rear rotors and caliper brackets are unique, pads and everything else are the same

beware that some ix's use girling calipers, not ate.

forgot to mention the ATE's make it way easier to change the pads. if you find some at a pnp take em and rebuild em.

the only reason I mentioned it at all was because girlings and ATEs have their own brake carriers (I think), and the ix rear is ix-specific, so unless the rear calipers match between his i and ix he can't swap them without the ix carrier to go with it.

when did ix's come with ate's?

I was up above it, Now I'm down in it ~ Entropy - A Build thread.

will any e30 ate's fit on an ix, are the 325's differ from the 318s?

they will fit if you can get the ix-specific ATE rear caliper bracket, and of course you would need the ATE caliper bracket for the front as well.

I'm pretty sure the calipers on my 7/87 parts car are girling, but then again there is basically nothing left but rusty clumps of iron so it's a little hard to tell.

I tried to find that out to no avail. my car is an 89 (09/88) and it came with ATE's on the rear, but the fronts were originally Girling till I switched to ATE.

edit: weird, when i tried to put 09/88 it came out as a "cool smiley". from the paranthesis I guess

I put 318is front brake calipers on my iX. The iX ones were rusted to hell and trashed so I just used some spares from my 318is, the iX started as Girling and I put on ATE. Direct bolt up, no issues. Rebuilt the calipers before install and the brakes work great. Seems to me that almost any e30 front caliper will just bolt up.
