    Do not buy G60 shocks.

I don't know who the hell is running these...or how, but what a bad decision it was to listen to whoever said 'yea, they work.'

    - They're about 5" shorter then e30 shocks, which equals massive chopping of the shock tubes - way more then I thought.

    - The collar nut has inner threads, not outter ones like you need.

    - The shock tube is 6mm smaller in diameter then it needs to be (P30 instead of P36) - which is only good if you have an 84-85 318. Apparently those have 30mm tubes. Otherwise there's a hell of a gap in there you need to figure out how to fill.

    - The piston shaft is too thick in diameter.

Now she sits in pieces waiting for new E30 Billy Sports to arrive.

I'm curious how people run these. I've read posts from people who are running them but they're always vague about specifics.

          - How much did you chop the tubes?
          - What collar nut do you use and how did you thread it onto the chopped housing?
          - How does it not rub like crazy going 5" lower with full suspension travel?
          - How do you attach the shock mounts to a wider diameter spindle?

I'll take pictures of them side by side and post part numbers.

Maybe the piston shafts are longer on the G60's but the bodies are way more then 2" shorter

I think even with the G60s, you need a spacer under the shock as well. I know one person with them installed, so I know they work. Sounds like you have the wrong ones.

EDIT: you sure if they are corrado G60s? VW made other cars with a G60 trim, including GTis for a time, iirc.

Yea, but they only made 1 kind of G60 shock insert.

You guys can tell me all day about how you know someone who's running them, but until I hear specifics on how exactly they pull it off, they're useless to me.

I am currently running "Corrado" front struts, but never thought to look at which corrado they fit. I can tell you that VR6 corrado's run different struts, and that all corrado struts used on e30s will require a spacer under the shock.

How much did you chop off?
How did you solve the collar nut issue after chopping off the threads?
How did you solve the 6mm of gap?
                    How bigs your spacer?

A buddy of mine just sent me this - to clarify things for others thinking about the GC + E30 Bilstein Sport setup - here's them on the lowest setting on his car:

That's shit. I can't justify rocking nice wheels with 2" of wheel gap and NO suspension travel. Looks like I'm going to be taking a $140 hit from the welding I got done.

I need SPECIFICS on the G60 setup. Can anybody help me out and put down some actual #'s?

you could order the correct ones from Ground Control . . .

                        just a thought.

I haven't modified the strut tube yet. other than cutting off most of the spring perch.

The ground control setup came with new nuts for the top of the strut tube. they worked perfectly.

I got the Koni's straight from GC as well as the 5ish inch spacers.

I'll found some pics of the setup we put on mike's e28. You can see the spacers and new nuts on the far left.

This is my car the night I installed the coilovers, with them adjusted all the way up. They now reside at a much lower altitude.:D

I like what I'm seeing. That's more like it.

I wasn't aware GC sold that koni kit with spacers and collar nuts.

I'm going to have enough new front shocks to last for another 300k.

If anyone's interested, I'm probably (if I can't cancel the shock order in time) going to have brand new e30 Bilstein Sport front shocks, and stock tubes with the GC perch and M3 sway bar tabs welded on.

I'll be needing your stock tubes though. And asap.

I'd still like to run the G60's though - otherwise it's going to be more upfront cash and waiting. So if anyone has those specifics asked for above I could still use them. It doesn't seem too difficult, I just don't want to start chopping without some guidance first.
