Power Steering Pump

What are people doing for replacing the power steering pump these days on M20 engine? Anyone found refurbed units or is new aftermarket the only option? Did they need to switch to CF11s instead of ATF? presumably you need to swap the steel mounting arms/links over?

Both the ZF style and Vickers pumps fit the M20B25 combination power steering pump/alternator supporting bracket (32411264642) and tension adjustment bar. Each style pump requires its own unique supporting plates to attach the pumps to the supporting bracket.

If your existing pump is a ZF style, and you presumably have the ZF style supporting plates, you can use a brand new pump from Meyle, BMW part #32411141243, and Meyle part #3146310009. You would need to re-use your ZF supporting plates and remove the large curved plate the new Meyle pump comes with (I think the new plate is for a contemporary 5 series circa 1990). This new Meyle pump is available from multiple sources, I got mine from Schmiedmann for a little over $160.

If you have a Vickers pump, I am not aware of any new replacement pumps. BMW used to sell a remanufactured Vickers pump for many hundreds of dollars but to my knowledge it is no longer available.

If you have a vickers pump, you could convert to a ZF style by acquiring used the required supporting plates (they are NLA new).

Finally, either ZF or Vickers pumps could theoretically be rebuilt with new seals. I personally think its more trouble than just buying a new ZF pump.

Mine is the Vickers might try with a seal kit which seems to be available and hopefully no trash has gone through or wear that would require the ZF bracket and new Chinese route
