      the fluid actually doesn't lubricate the rack. The spacers should be above the rack, so you are good there.

        THE PUMP acrtually acts as a steering dampener in a the factory setup.

          permanent fix would be to put ps on. e30s are light but not that light. do you have an aftermarket steering wheel thats smaller?

                  Yeah. When I did my tie rods + PS delete, I was off 1 turn (on the tie rod) and It was stiff as a bitch; until I got an alignment.
