+1 This happened to me and caused a knocking noise.

I'll assemble an IE camber plate with drop hats tomorrow to see how it goes. Just bought the hats on a whim.

no such thing as a pre-loaded E30 coilover, unless you get a kit with tender springs (not common). typical springs are 6" long, about half as long as a stock spring. they will maintain contact as long as you don't go full droop (and if you're taking your E30 over sweet jumps, you'll have other issues to deal with).

there's definitely no point to using a drop hat with a coilover spring, that doesn't (and can't) use the stock spring perch in the first place..

quick question regarding e90 drop hats. The e90 haps have metal ring on the bottom of the center hole, while the bottom of the e30 tophat is completely flat. When installing the e30 hat does that ring on the bottom of the e90 top hat affect anything? I just find it hard to believe that the e90 hats can drop the car 10mm's with that ring in there. Do you still leave in parts 7 and 8 in the picture below?

Coilover springs are a smaller diameter than the stock springs. That's why there's no need for drop hats with coilovers...they won't fit. Besides, if you want it lower, just thread down the collars on the lower spring perch.

Sigh**. My struts are pushed out further in my shock towers towards the fenders than with or w/o camber plates.... If anyone is gonna rub on the tower, it's me..... I bet your springs aren't lined up well in the perches and hats- anytime u jack ur car up, u need to watch for this and re- align ;) If there's any scrapping or binding going on, something else is worn out. Mine are REAL tight tolerances where yours wouldn't be as much ;)

your using camber plates that is a completly different setup, anyone using stock strutmounts??

    Thanks,

I also used the existing strut bearings that were about 2 years old. I didn’t add any extra washers just the e90 hats, existing washers, and a new lock nuts. Also have newer stock CABs.

Anyone have an idea to get these to work ???

One post suggested grinding the hat but they don’t seem to be larger that the strut mounts.

Would it be the angle of the e90 had compared to the stock hats?

    Thanks for any ideas
