    What rear shock mounts?

I got a set of ground controls, says they were made for bilsteins. I'll try em out with my bilsteins and if I don't like them I'll just get konis

anyway, I got those rstr or whatever adjustable camber plates up front, but I was curious which rear shock mounts to go with. i tried calling ground control but wasn't able to get a hold of them

ground control mounts are really stiff, to the point where they have bent shock shafts. if you want the money one's, get the JTD.

i'm getting the repair shop rsm's from bimmerworld. same basic design as the jtd (solid), cost same as the e46 m3 cab ones (29 bucks), and they have a lifetime warranty.

The rear shock mount is the weakest bushing on the 84 and up 3 Series cars. BMW has gone through more than 5 generations of designs, and the newest mount is still prone to failure. This replacement mount based on the popular JTD performance rear shock mount (but made for higher production) was released initially for sale to repair shops to eliminate the common service come-back expense associated with factory mounts. This mount is now available to you directly from Bimmerworld.

The common problem with the factory design is the shock does not take only a vertical load - the trailing arm has an arced range of motion. This forces the shock to pivot around the upper shock mount, which eventually causes the adhesive bond in the stock rubber mount to fail - a process expedited when combined with performance shocks.

This new design allows this pivoting motion and dramatically extends the life of the mount. We are so confident in these mounts that if they ever fail, you can trade them in for a new set at no charge! Made with high quality Buna rubber to eliminate squeaks and a high production stamped steel plate, costs for this extraordinary mount are close to the BMW factory price. Fits all 1984-present 3 Series cars, sold in pairs.

That link doesn't work for me.

If I'm looking at the correct RSMs, then they are the same ones I have been using as well. In fact, they have been on my car for the past two years without any problems. For $29 (they were twice the price when I bought them :x), I would absolutely buy the same RSMs again. Billet RSMs have cool-factor, but these have a similar design and work just fine. The only thing I had to do with these was to grind down the ends just a bit for clearance on the inside of the towers.

*Edit: I went back and looked at these RSMs again and discovered that they are a bit different from the ones I have. The body of the mount is the same, but the mounting hardware is different. When I purchased mine, they came with a reinforcement plate that sits on top of the tower and had the bolts attached to it. I don't see that same plate on Bimmerworld's website and oddly enough, that same product does not appear on the JTD website either. :?

I just ordered those mounts from bimmerworld. They should arrive next week.

This past weekend, I installed FK 60/40 springs with bilstein sports. After driving on them for just 4 days, I blew up my rsms - e46 cabrio mounts. The mount was pretty torn up. I'm still really suprised at how tight the new suspension is. Anyway, hopefully, these JTD copies will last.

I've had E46 M3 mounts for a couple years now in my heavy ix with konis, they're still fine. not sure why some people blow through them and others don't..

Something has to be wrong if you blew out brand new E46 cab RSM's in 4 days, especially with soft springs like FK's. What shocks are you running? Did you torque the upper bolt to the proper spec?

not soft in any sense of the word, ask anyone who's been in my car. but 99% of what anyone here is running shouldnt blow through rsm's in 4 days.

What I meant is relatively soft compared to some of the killer springs available :)

I'm not sure why one of the RSMs went other than the bid dip I hit. Installation etc was fine, however my FK springs (and I can only speak for myself) are anything but soft. Stiffer than H&R sports & ST springs based on my subjective opinion having been in cars with those springs. For more info, read my review on them. I've noticed there is a consensus on this board that FK springs are soft, but the few people on the board that have them dispute this. Anyone know where the "FK's are soft" opinion came from? It seems to be just the opposite.
