    sparco strut bar trouble

Ok, so im attempted to put my strut bar on my 85 318i and im having some trouble. Its about an 1nch off. so i jacked the car up. Is an 1in way too much, or do you think it will settle by tommorow so that i can put the bar on?

i take it your struts are an inch too narrow.

Wasnt there something going around saying that there was a difference in some of teh strut towers, like some were narrower than others?

back to your car, you should beable to just jack it, and just make it fit. When i did mine on my old car i had to kinda push down on the tires a bit.

1 inch seems to be a little extreme for chassis sag.. I think you would know if it were that bad (there's not much gap between the stock hood and fenders). I don't believe at all that your chassis is sagging that much. kinda like my strut brace (almost 1" off), there was no way it was the car's fault, I could see maybe 1/2".

An inch is a lot. Has the car been in an accident in the front?

cut the ends off and weld them back to the bar on the car.

I dont beleive the car was in any accidents.

ed, if i cant get it on tommorow then maybe ill give that i try.

Ive also thought about going with IEs smaller bar and selling this one.

Psst. My car has never been in any serious accident aside from sheet metal (fender/hood) dents.

My Sparco bar was also about an inch too long. I cut the ends off, shortened the bar, and welded it all back together.

Then I bead blasted it, and had it painted body color.

Just do it, or pay someone else to. Won't be that bad..

There is a lot of talk about there being two different measurements for E30 strut towers it's undocumented but alot of people are having the same issues.

well i dont really feel like paying someone else to modify this strut bar, so i guess ill just sell it and buy the IE bar.

Anybody wnat it? it will go up in hte FS section soon

Andrew, how do you know the IE shorter version will fit?
I bet you'll end up modifying that one.

wouldn't cutting the strut tower bar make it lose some of it's strength???

Not if you cut of the ends and not in the middle. They don't make them from one piece of metal.

i see cutting more of a hassle then selling this one or bringing it back and buying a new one.
