iX Bilstein HD.. the ones for going lower?

Hello, are iX Bilstein HD the inserts i want to purchase if i am planning on going lower for a DD. I will be running ground control coils. 650/450 with stock rear shocks (unless someone suggests otherwise) and plan to section the front struts 1.5 in and run a 1.5 in spacer because the ix's are 3in shorter to my understanding.

Sorry for making a new thread but when searching there are so many arguments about this it is hard to decide whether i am right.

Here are the inserts I plan to order:

From what I've read hd's are okay for the rear not for the front. They would be okay for a minimal drop but not for a really low set up. I think the hd would not last as long on a low set up

I thought g60 corrado bilstiens were the best choice for the front. Idk about the rear currently researching the same thing.

You can use ix Bilstein HD's in normal e30 RWD struts, as long as you use a spacer, since they are 3" shorter. If you want to section your housings to go lower, you just shorten the spacer by the same amount that you shorten the housing. This is how you go lower without bottoming out the strut insert.

However, they are not even remotely close to being stuff enough for a 450/650 setup. Even RWD e30 Bilstein sports aren't really stiff enough, and the ix HD's are about half the rates of the RWD Sports. So it will be very bouncy unless you get them re-valved.

I'm currently running that setup - ix HD's front, normal rwd Bilstein Sports rear, 450/650, front shorted 1" and using a 2" insert spacer. It's bouncy. Definitely not ideal for daily driving and terrible for handling. I'll be sending mine out for revalving.

What Jgood said is spot on.
I've ran this this setup for 2 years now. If you want the ideal setup goin this route, you'd want them revalved and internal bump stops shortened for a more proper handeling ride.

With that said, mine aren't revalved and I have similar rates as Jgood.
I'm super happy and have the intention of revalving in the future.

My advice is to either do it proper at once or go with BC's and get it over with all together since suspension travel isn't sacrificed no matter what height you adjust and it comes with camber plates, RSM's..

No offense, but at the ride height you're at, you're claim of 'riding fine' is extremely subjective.

Your shocks aren't doing anything. The springs are completely overpowering them, the shocks are just along for the ride, as if you didn't have shocks installed at all. Maybe you don't notice it, but anyone who is looking for a suspension setup that works properly would not be satisfied with that setup.

OP, if you just want your car to be low, and don't care about proper damping, then maybe you'd be satisfied with stock iX HD's. A lot of people on this forum don't seem to mind.

I know with going low you lose some ride comfort, unless spending much $$$ which is not a possibility at this time. I think I am going to go with ix hd's for the time being, and down the road will also have them revalved in the future.

is $114 per shock a fair price to pay for new? I cant find any used :(
