    German Engineering coilover help!

    So after I installed my GE coils yesterday my car's height in the front was nothing near like pictured below. At it's lowest setting the front it is sitting about 1-1.5" higher than the tire on a stock 14" basket weave 195/65/14. I installed with Billstein sports and IE street/track camber plates in this order...

    slid the coilover sleeve on
    installed the shock strut
    tighten the retaining nut
    installed the spring
    installed dust boot
    installed the top hat
    installed x3 washers
    installed the IE camber plates( http://www.iemotorsport.com/bmw/E30-...0cambersr.html )
    installed the washer
    tighten the new nut

    ...except I ran camber plates after top hats

    I am also hearing like a clunking noise when I hit a bump/when suspension travels. That normal for camber plates maybe? Any idea of what's going on? Thanks in advance!

      Install only 1 adjuster ring (all the way down anyway) and use a 5" spring. This will get you low without cutting the spring perch.

        Yeah I was thinking it was going to be that but after I saw einstein57's post on how low it was with nothing cut I thought it be the same. Could have swore he said it was on a 6" spring as well but I may be mistaking. Gonna drive it for a bit and see if it settles down more, hopefully! Then take everything apart again ughh and remove that one lovely adjuster. Any idea what noise is???

            ...now I need to figure out if the noise is normal with camber plates. Anyone?

              Garagistic has lower front spring rates. You should be able to get lower then 1.5" of tire gap but you have different camber plates then i was offering. I was offering the race plates. The springs will settle a little less then a half inch. Here is mckmans car with 6" 450 and no cutting (other then factory perch removal). He is even running undersized tires. He is running his perches upside down to get an extra 1/2" of drop.

                  The noise from the camber plates is common. Reread the group buy thread, many of us had issues with it. I solved mine by adding grease to the race plate bearings and tightening the top shock nut with the suspension out of the car. If you do it while installed there is a chance that its not lined up correctly.

                    All you need is a cheap harbor freight sawzall or cut off wheel to remove the factory perch. I was offering sectioning services for people who wanted to run shorter inserts. Or are you talking about welding on a new perch in a lower position? If so 90% of the work is grinding off the old weld. Probably not worth your gas to have me do it. You could grind it off and have a local muffler shop weld on a new section of pipe an inch or so lower. I use black pipe for gas and water lines. IIRC it was $8 a foot.

                      Not sure if you ever got your clunk figured out, but I had a clunking with the identical setup. Turned out to be my IE plates, the spherical bearing had play within the plate that it is installed in. IE sent me a set of SUPER thin washers, which I installed between the spherical bearing and the c-clip that holds it in place. I couldn't believe it, but the clunking went away. It's hard to think that tiny bit of play could cause that much noise!

                        I actually removed the GE coils switched to H&R race. I am on BavAuto springs in the mean time and no noise no more but I did notice the slight play you are talking about but did not hear a noise. I am gonna contact IE for those washed though. Thanks man good looking out!
