What I meant is I'm not sure where you would cross over in front of the subframe. Unless you could somehow squeeze it in that same gap area as the steering rack behind the sump. Unless you made a custom one like I posted earlier and mounted it further foward like so......

Are the IE and other aftermarket sways made out of high carbon steel? I wonder if you couldn't just take your stock sway, flip it around and weld extensions onto the ends the reach the point that you wanted. The lower relief area on the stock bar would give you that added clearance area for the lower crank pulley. As you suspension flexed it would move away from the oil pan towards the front of the car.

they are made of spring steel.

not really a good idea to weld onto it, but it can be done.

the E46 swaybar ends are probably 4-5" longer.

Is the width going to be the same? Seems like the e46 is a wide car, then again I'm not at all familiar with them. I was thinking about just ordering some chromoly tube and building one. you can get 7/8 - 1" piece about 3' long for $15-$20. Weld on the arm length of choice and boom. done. Energy suspension sells sway mounts in about every size you'd ever want.
