How to bend front E30 struts?

he's talking about bending the STRUT HOUSING, which can and is done all the time. ireland engineering advertises this service on their website, you should try giving them a call - www.bmw2002.com

nando I think you missed my point. sure you can do that but camber plates are easy to change. What if he decides he doesn't like it or wants to sell the car?

well it's usually done when you already have camber plates but still need more camber. he never said what suspension setup he had - if he calls IE to ask them about the service I'm sure they'd steer him in the right direction. and it's not like your struts are impossible to find used, RWD E30s are a dime a dozzen.

To the OP. Almost all Alignment shops have a machine to bend them precisely. However i agree with Asu. Camber plates are a good idea if you want to be able to get positive camber back.
What application are you going for?

my cars got 2.5 neg camber... and all I have is H&R sports.... LOL

Struts have been bent to correct camber for at least 20 years. The tool resembles a fender lip roller except the top is connected to the strut and changes the angle of the hub flange. An alignment or suspension shop with the tool can do it but most would rather just sell parts.

We do not have such shops and I want to make my own tool for bending. I would like to know technology how to do it. Can I heat the strut housing? Which part should be bent (tube)?
I can't use camber plates because of regulation. That would be hill climb and racing.

http://bmw2002.com/ Go to E30 ->Suspension -> 3rd page. For $120 it's probably the way to go as there are no local shops. IE bends them when their camber plates don't do the job by themselves. Strut type front suspensions lose camber in both bump and roll which is why they are only used in racing when the rules require it.
This is a pic of the fender tool. It would need to be something similar that pulled on the strut instead of rolling the fender lip and also spread the stress along the length of the strut so that the bend is concentrated low and the tube remains straight. undoubtedly more than $120 in time, materials, and development.
