    Painting, polishing, repairing wheels

I just got some 15" weave and i still need to check to see of they are straight, but if they are im going to be repainting the centers gold and polishing the lips. Some of the lips are curb rashed pretty bad but i dont think i could use body filler to repair them since i will be polishing them. should i just file them down? Any masking tips?it seems as though they were masked PERFECT before and i would like to be able to do that again. Do wheel shops have any special thing they use for this? i wouldnt think they still use tape.

    perfect perfect perfect masking

someone didnt know how wide their car was!!!

    some more gold then others

yeah that seems like it would be pretty easy, but i think they would look odd with gold painted centers and a silver painted lip.

What paint are you going to use on the centers? I have a set of gold baskets that I am picking up soon and I may need to refinish them. The Wurth gold (if you can find it) supposedly is NOT a good match.

you mean the color isnt? i am going to be painting the whole things so it shouldnt matter unless the wurth paint just looks bad. I want it to be bright like the one in the upper right hand corner

should i just use the dremel to try and smooth out the curb rash? I recently found out that one of the rims had pretty bad bends on the rim on both sides. It was nothing a hammer couldnt fix! lol

Curb rash that bad is going to be very hard to repair yourself. I personally would have those professionally refinished.

                professional what?

                :D

I also hammered back some bends. I wish i would have taken more pics so you could better see what they were like. 2 of the rims had bad rash almost all the way around. That rash is no more!!!!

for the most part they are level. although there are a couple huge gouges i had to grind down pretty far. If you stand them up and look at them from almost straight down they wont look perfect, but all other angles are good

I figured out that small blemishes don't matter, nobody will ever get close enough to your wheels to see them (especially if you are moving)

good work on cleaning them up, but you're going to have to work on that fninsh..

yeah im going to be applying the paint remover tmr, then Im going to repaint them. I know I should clear the paint, and Im pretty sure i should clear the bare metal after i polish it. Is that right?

                        also WTB CENTER CAPS!!!

Im probably going to order all the wurth paint and shiz on monday. Then I think i will do a test run on my spare.

I have 4 centercaps for those. They're blue, but if you're painting, it doesn't much matter. They say BBS instead of BMW on the center. $100 shipped.

you shouldn't have to, in fact I wouldn't because you will be able to polish it up later if needed. the aluminum will 'oxidize' creating a protective layer all on it's own. clearcoat will likely flake off/chip/scratch.
