That's what size was on my weaves when I bought my car. It gave me an effective gear ratio of 4.27:1 (I think?)Originally posted by Ritalin KidAre 185/60/R14 tires ok to use on 14 inch bottle caps on an 87 325i?
Acceleration was worse when I put on my 225/50/15's

Nope, pretty sure I've got it right.Originally posted by arsevaderWouldn't it be the other way around though?
The time it takes for the wheel to rotate 360 would be less but the speedo doesn't know that.

Think of it like this- if you've got the stock size tires on there (195/65R14's in most cases) and you're going 60 MPH, it shows 60 MPH. Now if you change to the smaller diameter tire, the speedo doesn't know the difference, so when it's showing 60 MPH, you're only doing something like 56 MPH (I just made that number up)- the thing to remember is that the smaller tires will need more revs to go the same distance as the larger tires- the Speedo only calculates based on the revs and the stock size tire- so it's reading a higher speed than you are actually travelling because it "thinks" you've gone farther than you actually have.
Whew.
