Stock M20. I could put the car into a slide either with a quick blip of the throttle in 3rd while turning, or little ass swing. Also, lots of snap oversteer from these tires. They were designed for Mustangs and Camaros, hard compound so you can drive hard and not wear them down.

And when doing a standing burnout, power does not matter much. The tires are spinning, and you get a nice smoke show. Ask any of the toronto E30 guys.

tire: Bridgestone Potenza RE92 (v speed rating, 160 treadwear)

    size: 205/50 R16

    purchased: january '99 for $156.00 a tire.

tire life: installed at 110,000miles - being replaced at 167,000miles

tire grip: amazing in the dry even now when its down to almost no tread.
rain traction has gone to almost none, however, but was good.

feedback: i would definately buy them again, but i really cant afford that right now. i highly recommend them if you have the $$

I'm not sure. They were on the wheels when I bought them. I've never seen them anywhere else, so I'm not even sure if they make them anymore...

I used to have Falken GRB in 205/40-17
(they are the tires that came with my rims)
They are about as grippy as a wet bar of soap. Great tire if you have no desire to maintain traction.

I now have a set of Goodyear Eagle F1s in 215/45-17
(I know they are oversized. Picked up all four for only $100)
Besides the rubbing from being oversized, they are a great tire. Very grippy. I will definately get them again (in the correct size though) when I need new tires.

I have seen a kid at the track with those tires back in June. It started pouring in the middle of the event and he was the only one who did not seem to have any traction issues.

He swears on their dry and wet grip, and from what I've seen.... it's good. He was running themi n 205/50/16 (same I'm going for)

Ter-Tech, a local shop that sanctions drift events, uses Dunlop FM901s sometimes on their turbo e34. The driver always said good things about them as well.

I was(am?) also skeptical about them because I havent heard many good tires from Dunlop... but they are slowly growing on me and I'm willing to give it a try.

Dunlop FM901's --- I was just about to post, asking about those --- what have you heard? I have seen and heard very little about these, myself, but I am curious about them!

Thanks for all the input, guys - much appreciated.

Regarding opinions - yeah, everybody has one - but I do think they can be useful. For example - just about anyone you run into will tell you that ES100s are not that great. Seems to me that hearing that level of opinion from that many people would serve to make me go "Hrmm - maybe I should look at something else, first" --- rather than dropping the cash and being disappointed. And sometimes it's hard to find a "controlled" review of the tire you're looking at --- so all you have to go on are opinions.

I, for one, don't think I would ever have looked at Hankook RS-2's, had I not read some of the posts on this thread. Now I'm definitely going to consider them.

Moderators - Think this is worth a sticky, as a reference?

they shocked me as well.. I wasn't expecting much for wet traction, and until last october I had never driven them in the rain. it wasn't until I autox'd in heavy rain that I realized their potential. So far these are my favorite tires by a long shot, if I can find something better I'll be both impressed and happy. :)

also, going from 2 months of shitty snow tires to azenis = whoa...
