Finals words on Ziex 512 vs. Yoko ES100?

    I put 512's on my Audi cuz my brothers 325es was better in the snow and it sucked with traction, it was all wheel drive so I had to do something about my tires. Slapped these on and they were great, better traction, better response, from what I am reading they aren't the best but I had great experience with them. I could still turn on a dime too. Maybe the tires I had on it were really shitty, I don't know, I recommend them though.

      I concur with the squishy sidewall on the ziex. Looks like I have a flat tire in the rear.

        I have owned both 205/50/15 YOKO, 225/40/16 Falken...I must say the Falkens ride smoother and offer more bang for the buck (my es100's have hit the wear bars after about 5K or so)...

            Yoko Ono?

            I bought 205/60-14 ES100's for 14" weaves and liked them. They lasted 45,000 miles at stock height. Lowered you need toe adjustment.
            They had good numbers on tirerack.com and I liked the way they looked!

              es100's get damn good traction even when bald if you let them warm up :)
              If you can adjust your camber and toe, you can get some good mileage out of es100's if you keep them at the right pressure and flip the tires at 7k. I got 15k out of mine, and that includes 2 DE's.

                I've had both.....sold the Yokos but I still have the Falkens. My thoughts:

                The Yokos were 205/50-16 on 16x7.5 Borbets. I bought these used but the orig. owner only racked up about a 1000 miles on them. I never did like these tires much....I'm more aggressive in my driving style and it didn't take much to break the traction in the dry. In the wet they were a joke. I went to watch ChampCar in San Jose last summer and there was an exhibition drifting event by some pro drivers. Three of these drift cars were shod with Yoko ES100s....guess that reinforces my experience with them.

                The Falken 512s I still run are 225/50s on 15x7 euro weaves I purchased from Permit last year. This isn't the sportiest of tire out there but in the wet they do a good job. Soft sidewalls, yes....comfy for daily usage, yes.....would I track them, never. When comparing these tires to the Yokos in day-to-day running around, I definately like the Falkens more. These are great for general city/highway driving. If you aspire to auto-x or track, get an extra set of wheels with some < 200 treadwear rated rubber and have fun....don't use either of these tires for such purposes. Both leave a lot to be desired in the spirited/aggressive driving catagory.

                  I just got the Yokos over the weekend. I've only driven on the new tires for 20 miles or so, mostly highway, but I can already tell that they're grippier than the crap tires I had on before. There's one particular freeway offramp that I normally have to brake on, but with these new tires, I was able to zip right through with a little throttle. Nice. I haven't tried them in rain yet (it's raining right now). I'm going to let the tires "break in" before I drive really aggressively on them.

                    I've noticed that the Yokos are giving me 1-2 MPG less than I got with my old crappy A/S tires. I'm talking about driving on the same roads I always take under similar conditions. Is this normal?

                      After much reading, I ordered General UHP's in 215/40/17. I am gonna start with a pair, see how they feel and then get the other 2, or look more.
                      TireRack has wonderful reveiws on them. Continental bought General, so I will hope for the best.

                        Doesn't seem right to me. Same tire pressures and tire sizes as before?

                          Perfectly normal. Low rolling resistance = hard rubber compound, which is what your old tires had. The Yoko's are quite soft, which is for traction. The downside is wear and fuel economy.

                            The info sheet for the Yoko tires said that some funky technology minimizes rolling resistance... marketing I guess?

                            Anyway, the tire size is now 205/60R14, vs. 195/65 before. I guess a greater surface patch on the pavement might also increase rolling resistance. I know the new tire is a smaller size, but the computer's MPG reading is based on tire revs, not actual mileage covered. Tire pressure is 35, which is actually a tiny bit more than I had on my old tires.
