    *shrug*

I'm running some full depth no-name all seasons this winter, they came on my 318is on steelies. Free tires are free tires. If the are too bad, I have a pair of 75% depth blizzaks that i'll toss on the drive wheels.

I beg to differ automatic, snow tires would be really nice and help a lot but w/ an IX e30 you don't really need them. If you have ever driven a IX in the snow then you would understand. The AWD and RWD is crazy diff in the snow.

Can't drive in the snow like it's dry, so taking it easy on full tread depth tires is fine. Especially since most of the time it's dry during the winter, and when it snows, just take it easy. You're not Marcus Grunholme.

Even AWD vehichles suck in the snow without the proper tire. I speak from experience My first two winters with my WRX I ran allseasons and I was all over the place, last year I ran M3 wintersports and I would never go back.
My audi was AWD and did just fine in bad snow with Ziex's on it

I only drove mine around a bit with the Ziex when it was snowy and they weren't horrible. You are better off with a skinny tire though than a large one, look at the rally cars using 165's. IIRC the skinny tire will bite through rather than float on top of the snow like a wide one.

i had the falken ziex's the older ones and they had too traction in the snow, i drove through the deep snow at the ski resorts with no problem, i thought i had powers or something no chains no nothing. I thought i could do it again with es100s and spun a 720 on the road good thing it was 2am and no one around but my friends.

BTW, my Dad is going on his 5th winter with just high performance summer tires on his 2nd V8 powered 5 series. Just drives like a granny when it snows.

I own an AWD car and from my experience AWD does nothing to help you turn and stop on snow or ice it only helps you from not getting stuck. That is what snow tires for, their aggressive tread pattern bites into the snow/ice to get traction.

For example last Thanksgiving it snowed about 2 inches and I hadn't gotten snow tires yet and was still on Falken Azenis on my WRX, one word: SCARY.

I am not an expert nor have I driven Ziex's in the snow, I have however seen their tread pattern though and have a hard time believing they would be fun to do anything with but donuts in the snow.

they got me up to the mountain and back with no chains and deep snow in m 2wd e30. of course that was with the old tread design, and the new ones look even more agressive for snow.

yeah, but I have to drive in the rain too.. the 195s I had before were horrible in the rain as I mentioned above. I'd love to keep the snows and only switch them for bad weather, but I won't likely have the time nor the energy to be switching them back and forth.

how about getting them siped? I've always been a bit leary of that service, since the tire places push it so hard and charge money for it. wouldn't it make them wear faster though?

No matter what anyone says you cant touch an Audi in the snow.
