BMW is not making any more E30s and it’s already hard these days to find a clean unmolested one that isn’t a rolling trash can like OP’s car or one that doesn’t need tens of thousands in work to be something nice. It’s even harder to find one in the spec you want (e.g. single stage black, chrome trim that isn’t blacked out, M20 that isn’t swapped out, etc). That’s probably why people are shitting on OP and his car. And these are BMWs - cars that tend to attract people with “asshole” personalities - so there’s another reason. -
I guess the thing I don't get is why people feel they need to throw shade. If you don't like the price or the ride, just move on. Life's too short.Leave a comment:

No doubt this is true, but I assume I'll feel the same in 15 years about a clapped auto M10 e30 as I feel about $15k beater '02s today.Leave a comment:

Fuq no, project 2002s with more going for them than this pos are ASKING 5-7k on C-list, and probably not getting it.
Hipsters no likey spring pokey in the butt. Specially as they be gettin' on in years, now.
OVER-RESTORED 2002s may be going for silly on BaTurkey, but the local prices are not yet up to what it costs to do a really
nice paint job and build a solid engine...

unfortunately it looks like this recession is pairing up with an inflationary cycle. wages going down while prices continue to climb and employment remains steady or even increases. north america is on the cusp of a long stagflationary cycle, similar to japan at the end of the 90's.
I was offered a late 60s 911in excellent condition when the Boomers were desperately offloading their toys following the GFC for $20k. Still kicking myself that I didn’t buy it, If the recession bites hard, I won’t make the same mistake again and pick up something nice :)
e30 prices are definitely cooling down here.
edit : china is in deflation - prices, wages, and employment levels are all crashing.Leave a comment:

The dirt cheap E30 M3 ship already sailed in like 2011 (the 2008 crash being the window of opportunity for that car), but I see a window of opportunity opening up to pick a mint E46 M3 for a song in 2024, and that car will probably moon to the stratosphere (i.e. high five figs to six figs for a mint stock one) in 10-15 years or so.

When I bought my E30 in 2015 I paid 3500. At time I didn't know that much about them, other than I liked it. All the prices that I looked at ranged from 5k-6k. 3500 at the time felt like I was over paying. lolLeave a comment:

i've passed on so many late 2002s over the years because i couldn't get past the big crash bumpers lol. what an idiot i was for that. little did we know what the values of this stuff would do...
Man, about 10 years ago there was a '74 2002 for sale in my town that I could have got for $400. It'd been sitting in a garage for like 10+ years, non running and the body was rough but it was all there, just begging for a restoration. I want to say the dash didn't even have any cracks, and the BMWCCA sticker in the rear window is a detail I remember. Passed on it because I was out of garage space and taking on a project like that was beyond me at the time. Definitely kicking myself for not picking that up!
had i not ended up with my mentor's 2002 from his estate, i probably wouldn't own one today (and mine isn't very nice at all, but at least it's mine).Leave a comment:

e46 m3 has already taken off here. any of the 1 series as well whether it's 1m or not.
Well yeah, we’re definitely getting below the $20k level for a decent E30, although I don’t think the prices have bottomed out yet. I would wait maybe another 6-12 months - by that point you’ll probably be able to get a screaming deal on a really mint E30.

i'm pretty sure we're back to sub 20k prices on any e30 aside from m3 unless it's a perfect time capsule or something special. the under 10k prices for decent looking cars on DeMuro's site are getting more realistic.
We’re entering a sharp recession within the next year or so, so prices will start cooling off and level off by the end of next year. I’m noticing prices cool for other cars too. This E21 I was interested in was listed at $19k at the dealer and now they dropped the price down to $16k
Of course, cars like the M3 will get people emotional enough that price trends for it will defy market dynamics.

Cars and Bids is showing the same with cars selling sub 10k to about 20k but few breaking the 20k barrier now. not including the m3 of course.
BaT now seems only for speculators while Cars and Bids seems to attract the drivers and enthusiasts now.
