M Tech Steering Wheel - To Pad or Not to Pad…

I’m planning to send my steering wheel off to Redline to have it re-covered.

Has anyone opted for the padding? Is it too fat? The OEM wheel is quite thin, but, y’know.. stock. I guess it’s a matter of millimeters. Any opinions either way?

    Any suggestions besides redline?

i like the straight leather. kinda like it more when it's worn a bit too and sorta going from black to brown.

I went w/padding on mine around 10yrs ago. I personally like the extra thickness and would do it again, it makes the wheel much more enjoyable IMO. I have a MOMO prototipo in my 318ti... it is not padded, I find that it gets a bit old after a couple of hours.

I have a padded M tech 1 (370mm) but I haven't installed it. It does look more sporty compared to the wimpy looking stock wheel. I do have a Tesla with a similarly thick wheel and love it. I feel like I have more wheel to grab onto and it feels nice when I grip it. I think it's a no brainer for the smaller diameter wheels but on a stock wheel it will bulk up an already large wheel. Perhaps go with a light pad.

padded wheels don't get quite as hot in the sun either. still like the straight leather though. padded wheels kinda makes me think they'd be fine for your heavy period days ...

Appreciate the feedback. I think I will go with a light pad.

I have a monte carlo. non padded.. and I HATE it. I like the style but I get sharp aches in my palms as it doesn't dampen a thing. The padded mtech 2 wheel I have is WAY better.
