From google images it looks like a solid pin with the ends rounded.

that is an interlock pin, to prevent one shift rod from moving when another is engaged in a gear.
It looks like a ball bearing with an added cylinder in the middle- the ends are rounded close to spherical.
Yes, one could be made out of 4mm drill rod and some rounding and polishing, but you'd want to test
it pretty comprehensively with just the rods and the case to make sure it never bound....
I think if I'd lost one, I'd be looking for a trashed parts transmission to find another.
