The Ideal Parts Car / What have you found and parted out?

Unsure if this is already a topic but everyone here needs a parts E30 for their project E30, It's apart of the E30 Ownership and I have already made a checklist of all the parts that my 318i needs, However it goes without saying that it's been difficult to find a parts car these days that doesn't cost 4,000 up here in new england but it's not all doom and gloom, I know people have gotten lucky beforehand and so with this.

Let's talk about your stories:

What have you found recently that you bought and parted out? It can be an E30, W124 Mercedes, 1965 Chevrolet Malibu or any car for that matter, Share your stories of what random crap you found in a parts car or that desirable part that you've been after? I'd like to hear it all! Include pictures of the horrors that your parts car came with if you have them.

Still using the pedalbox, sunroof panel, front strut housing, and probably a few other bits in my '87 from this car.

In summary, after discovering frame rot and damage that was beyond repair on my '86 325e, i decided to look for a new car and ended up with my '87 325is

I'm grateful I don't have frame damage, Yikes! That build thread is amazing to see though!


I've been on the hunt for a decent parts car for the past 3 months and more. It's not easy to do when there's a guy in CT buying all of the damn cars and parting them out leaving folks like me to try and make due with whatever scraps they can find lol. However thanks to a friend of mine, I know the location of one vehicle that will be able to donate it's interior, Engine and suspension/brakes. It comes with a complete and untouched M20 engine and automatic transmission, Interior is fucked but the seats are saveable. I'll tell more about this car once I have it in my hands.

Are you talking about the guy in Willimantic on CL? My man seems to be buying everything. I’m in DC but am always on CL up and down the east coast…it still makes my tummy turn that people are just dismantling cars that could be put back on the road…

what do you need for your car? I’ll keep an eye out. My folks are in Southfield MA and we’re due up there in a couple weeks for a little hang.

Sweet dude, I can meet up in a few weeks for parts and all.

I wish i could save all of the E30's but we do have to consider what's worth more in terms of the car or individual pieces that can save 10 other cars from the crusher. Right now I'm looking for a complete 325i suspension setup and a Limited Slip, Headlights and body components like a new hood but it'll be more expensive to buy them seperately.

I need a whole car for my car, DM me if you do know someone with a parts car avaliable!
