below 2500 dropping the clutch would just bog and get a terrible launch.

2750 launch was perfect for me, great hook-up. unfortunally after doing that 4 times i broke both motor and both tranny mounts... it sucked.

If you just rev it up and flat out dump the clutch, then of course you will break stuff. You're jolting the hell out of the drivetrain by doing that. Unless you have a solid rearaxle and ET Drags, then dumping the clutch will not even get you a good launch, and you will only break stuff. It sends all the torque immediately to the drivetrain and it is going to relieve that stress through the tires; however if the tires hook up(which they will do if the track is well prepped), then guess where all that torque gets relieved? Through every rubber part of your drivetrain, and some metal parts too.

If you want a good launch, you have to use the clutch and throttle carefully. Bring the revs up and release the clutch in a smooth, yet somewhat quick manner; much like how you release the clutch between normal shifts when cruising. As you are releasing the clutch and feel that the car is hooked up, be rolling into the throttle to keep the revs up and not bogging.
By doing this, you are putting far less strain on the drivetrain.

It takes alot more skill to launch a car correctly than most people think.

I used to be a drag racer... I can list a crap load of info on how to make a car fast in a straight line. I think a BMW is better suited for going around corners faster than normal (road course), rather than being a 1/4 mile car. Let me also say that it is all a chain reaction, if you bump up power, then you need to reinforce everything else.
for the occasional drag day there are a few little things some of which have been mentioned (i.e. tire pressures, removing seats, spare tire, jack, and any un-nessisary things from the car).
If you can remove the end links from the front sway bar, and try to stiffen the rear suspension (maybe using airbags that go inside the springs) . What happens if done right is the car will tend to leap forward when launched (obviously you do move forward regardless) but the difference is that you lose time when the car squats, with stock suspension around a tenth or so. Anyway the rear stays put, the front of the car comes up giving you a better launch. Again this is my on an occasional drag day.

If you wanted a full all out drag car, then I know plenty on that too, but it would take too long to explain all of the other tricks I know of  so I'll save those tricks for another day  .

On another note it is really fun when you launch so hard that you pull tires off the ground  ;)
Once again this is only my .

damn...I have a toyota tacoma. That stupid thing is indestructible. I beat that poor little thing to piss, and it always goes, nothing ever breaks.... I have gotten so used to it, that to hear about things breaking when launching caught me by surpirse, even though it is obvious...
Its pretty fast, too. 15.8 with a few mods...

Anyway, Still cant wait to get an e30!! I bet they corner nice...

from what i have read in these forums, the auto trannies on these cars are REALLY crappy, huh? Guess I should definitely look for the 5spd...
