Sounds like the muffler is contacting part of the rearend. I had the same problem with my Trunk and my exhuast. I thought it was clogged or something was wrong.
Turns out the exhaust brackets werent properly installed and the muffler was laying against the left side(near where the jack is) I tightened the brackets and made sure it was spaced correctly and not touching. problem fixed

I work at an exhaust shop
Punch the bottom of it a few times once it has cooled down. Come back and tell us what you heard.Byron

While a clog is still likely, this sounds like a very possible problem as well. The rate of heat transfer is much higher through conduction than through convection.Sounds like the muffler is contacting part of the rearend. I had the same problem with my Trunk and my exhuast. Im in Dallas and its about the same heat here as it is in Austin. My car has been driving around fine. I would get a new exhaust system.Comment

Im in Austin and my car is fine. Besides that it dosnt matter if its 106 outside when exhaust gases run what like 200 plus. Also a clogged muffler equals higher exhaust pressure, pressure and heat go hand and hand. More pressure more heat and visa versa Do you get where im going with this?Comment
