Its all about potential with the M50. Yes, its 190hp stock, but with M3 cams and bolt-ons you can get US S50-numbers. Plus no timing chain to deal with, no valve adjustments, much smoother than an M20, the list goes on and on. 24v is the way to go, I think.

Jesus, Mike... if people wanted a drag car a slow ass economy car with trailing arm rear suspension probably wouldn't be their first choice anyway.

Assuming they knew ANYTHING about cars at all.

      Period.

"See, we're adding a little something to this month's sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anyone wanna see second prize? Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired."

I dont know what my car will do in the quarter. The best time I have witnessed on a mostly stock E36 M3 (basic mods, exhaust and chip) was 13.7xx. My only goal is to do that. I am a really quick shifter but my launches are my weak point, especially since I have twice the HP than what I have been used to.

I dont think the car much matters anymore. FWD hondas are breaking 10s so anything could be fast. Yes these cars are not going to be lightning quick without MAJOR modification but a mid 15 second time is respectable considering that is still the common time for cars that have the advantage of 200,000 fewer miles and 20 years of engineering.

BTW, BimmerJim broke 12 seconds down here at KCIR not to far back.
        Im now E30less.

Brandon's S50 E30 did a 13.4 I want to say, when the motor was stock in his 325e.

          RISING EDGE

Let's drive fast and have fun.

            Re:

FWIW Mike others. I've owned two "i" cars. Both were stone stock w/ low 100 K mileage. 15.48 @ 88 mph (2.28 60 ft) was my best 1/4 mile time. Other car was 0.07 sec slower. My ETA w/ chip only was 16.4.

What is your track elevation...makes a big difference.

Dude you should definitely be quicker than that. Stock E36 M3s are what, 400lbs heavier than your E30? And what gearing did you end up running out back?

                * I'm probably wrong, so correct me *

mikeedler, I'm sure criticisms come out of some truths. In Germany, you don't do a 1/4 Mile, but a 400m right?
Also assuming that everyone here are telling the truths (which they probably are), maybe the track length is not exactly the same ?

3.25. Yes I do have a weight advantage but that time I quoted was for a driver who was very experienced at the strip and probably knew a lot more about getting to 100 quickly than I do. Since I have only been there once before in my life I wouldnt expect to pull the best time this car can do, I just dont have practice. Most of the E36 drivers who I would expect to be at my skill level were pulling 14 even or higher.
                        Im now E30less.

I really call BS on that one! HC only in NZ? sure, and in 1986 all of the 325i cars I have come acros had a 3,64 rear diff vs 3,73later, which would also slow it down in the Qmile
