yeah well what isn't fast with a tuuuurrbooo.. ? too much of a reliability pita though for a track car. i'm always seeing folks with turbos at the track doing more wrenching than driving.Comment

Clean ass car you spotted Josh - a proverbial go-kart for the street.
My mechanic friend Ron Kain used to own a heavily modded 914-6 (yes - he hacked up an original) but the end result was nothing short of insane. 3.4L w/ Motec which dyno'd at 350+bhp and fiberglass panels & gutting which brought its weight down to sub-2,000 lbs.
Here's a shot of it in its latest form - he recently sold it to a good friend so I think he gets to flog it once in a while...

My Dad picked up a 914 project recently. He'll be dropping in a 6 and turning it into a mostly-track car.

I've seen some really cool track 914s at Sebring and Daytona. One of my all time favorites we call the "stove-pipe" car. It had a huge pipe through the passenger area bringing fresh air back to the engine. It looked awesome, fucking screamed around the track, and had outrageously wide flares and wheels. SCCA GT-1 class if I recall correctly.

I was looking at 914's when I discovered E30's as cheaper (?) and having more seats and trunk space. The stock 914-6 only had 110HP gross, so was not much faster than the 4-cylinder version. I see these cars being built with late-model (mid-90's) 3.6L lumps in magazines, but you're talking huge money there. I've seen several with small block chevys in them, the trouble there is that there's no reasonably-priced transaxle that can survive the torque. I had to give up on the idea, but still love the styling.Comment
