    Diesel Questions

I want a diesel car for a daily driver but I don't want a FWD car ala VW. I love the E28 and E34 and think that either one would make a lovely candidate for a DD. I know you can find a E28 with the M20 Eta engine, and the E34 with either the M20 "i" engine or M50, but I still want a diesel for the 35+ or so MPG.

So what I am getting at is this: can I convert a petrol car to a diesel? I would like to use a european M51 diesel and cram it and accessories into a US E28 or E34. Can it be done?

Alas, I am here in the US. We got the E28 524td thats the closest to what I want. Ideally I would transplant a M51from a 1995 525tds here to the states to a E28 or E34 federal body.

It's cheaper to buy a W124 Mercedes 300D. We have one at work at it gets 600 miles to a tank.

heh, they look ugly, cannot get out of their way and are LOUD like some piece of farm equipment. If you can deal with that and not get thrown off by the fact that Diesel cost more than gasoline (but you get more miles outta a gallon) then do one up..

Just don't complain about the turtle power 0-60 times etc :D

You don't have to go Diesel to save gas, there are other alternatives....

I had an old 240d for a couple of months ran like a tank, sounds like a tank & handles like a tank, but it will never die those cars will run forever.

Just find a 524td and buy it or bring over from germany a 324tds.

You'll have better luck with that than you will trying to find one of the 6 524td's still on the road in the US, or importing and getting a Euro-spec diesel to run on the horrid US high-sulphur diesel fuel.

not to mention old school diesel suck. only modern diesels are worth of daily driving IMHO.

an e28 with the eta motor would be a fine daily, slap the I top end on there and it'll still get good mileage, and be reasonably powerful

It's one of the same 6 cars. Someone buys it, gets tired of it, and puts it back on ebay.

                          It's like the Stevo bumper.
