i think the e30 drivers are by far more appreciative of their cars than any other group of BMW owners by and large. The only more hardcore group i think is the e30 m3 SIG and people insideo of that. E30 people do a lot of their own work, and enjoy the great handling characteristics, as well as the fact that they are a great go-fast platform even now, 20 years later. I think owners also see something else in them... they are really pretty raw cars. They also havea lot of personality - - something lacking in the newer cars. Mainly younger owners. I'm more of an e30 fan than an e36 fan, if nothing else b/c of the people...PNW Crew

In france e30 drivers are usually not as young as in US, e30 got much power for young drivers, they are still BMWs so the insurance are very very expensive (for a young drivers more than 1000 $ a year...).
I'm 29, and think i could have bought one since i'm 24 or 25.
But as i've got several cars, the insurance of the e30 is an "collection insurance", it cost me about 100 $ a year.
And e30 consume a lot of gazoline. those cars are too much expensive too use for us.
mine uses about 12/14 liters for 100 kilometers and the price here of a liter is about 1.15 euros/liter (so actually > 1.15 $ / liter)
So most of people don't what e30 for everyday use, so the prices of e30 digreases for years.
Most of e30 drivers (and e28 or old e34) are people who bought a BM because it was cheap, and often they do not take really care of the car (look at mine...)
Bimmers also use to be cars of the bad guys... or gipsy's ( but in the pejorative point of view).
What i say i've got a 323, people who know someting about cars think aboute the legendary e21 323i, when i say a e30, i often hear "Ohhhhhh".
But generaly people who knows agree with the fact the cars has power and it's a "car for guy" because it's a little difficult to drive under the rain or when driving fast. (We are used to FrontWheelDrive cars in Europe, they behavior on the road is superior the the E30...)
And finally for other people e30 are nothing else than old bad cars :-)
So i'used to joke with people, when we together saw a e46 i said " I'VE GOT THE SAME, but mine is a littele bit different, these one must be older"
People who know laught a lot :D
I bought the e30 for the 150hp and the rear wheel drive, i think it's just fine looking even if my dream is the e36 M3.

actualy, I think any young driver is dangerous (being one I know lol) , doesn't matter if they have an E30, an e46 M3 or a Ford Topaz, they just drive fast and recklessly. With that in mind, I'd prefer they had cars that could handle the speed like an E30 rather then another crappy old car.E30 325i 1990 (Winter beater)

It depends... 316 and 325 are not egual :-)Originally posted by bmwannabeI dunno, i had an E30 as my 1st car and managed it pretty well.
In france and in europe, the 80's were the golden age of the GTI's. I france we had the Peugeot 205 GTI. the bigger had 130hp ...for 900kgs it was and is still a bullet.
BUT lot of people killed themselves in those fast cars.
I believe you had the same kind of story in the past with your Muscles Cars.
Now here young people pay a lot for insurance.
