Weight Overkill?

Weight only helps initial off the line traction, but in every other situation it hurts more than it helps. You have an extra 300 lbs to stop and turn. I only ever carried a 10 lb bag of rock salt, mini-shoven and a pair of tire chains and never had to use any of it.Comment

the 318is with snow tires and LSD is surprisingly good in the snow, I think partially because it's super light. adding weight just means it's going to be harder to control and stop. Just be easy on the clutch/throttle.Comment

I agree, adding weight has its disadvantages. I do think I would benefit from a good set of winter tires though.
Not to hi-jack the thread, but any tire suggestions? Not much snow in Portland, but it gets cold and occasionally icy.Comment

I had no problems last winter in colorado with snow tires and no weight, even on a snowpacked hoosier pass, or a hardpacked ski mountain parking lot. I did have a LSD though.sigpicComment
