For those of you using Firefox

I just tweaked my Firefox and it makes a huge difference. If you haven't already do it!

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit Enter. look for the following settings.

    network.http.pipelining
    network.http.proxy.pipelining
    network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

    2. Alter the entries as follows:

    Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true" --- (probably only needed if you are behind a proxy, but I set mine to true as well)
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

    3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

For those of you who use firefox and are on a high speed connection, here are some tweaks that will greatly speed it up (as if it wasnt already the fa

That mod hammers servers. It may make things quicker for you, but slows things down for everyone else.. which is why I don't use it.

a number like 15 connections would be more than sufficient, without hammering the server. I've done similar tweaks to IE years ago. it's unlikely that you'd need to make 30 connections at one time anyway..

Thanks for the tips Weston. I did those to my Firefox, we will see how they work out. I set the value of the last one to 15 like nando said, my computer is slow so its probably better to not have so many requests.

I just got Firefox and Thunderbird last week and I am really happy with them. I was getting TONS of spyware and virus attacks while I was at home and not behind my school's firewall, so I got sick of it. It's taken me this whole past week to fix all the crap on my computer, and I am sure there is some left. But nothing new since I started using Firefox; plus, I love tabbed windows!
