Interesting picks...... from Hybrids to Hemis, there's a lot of new technology there.
However I am surprised they put the Mustang GT engine in there.Erick Mahle | FullOpp Drift | YouTube

the hemi is laughable.. 5.7l and only 345hp? oh but it gets better mileage now, 17-25. haha! at least it has a fat torque curve..
the new Hemi = marketing
no inclusion of BMWs for obvious reasons - the M5 isn't out here yet, and the E46 M3 has already been surpassed.Comment

It's the M5 engine... well the older one not the one coming out. and it is used in the E46 m3 GTR that you can buy street legal in Europe.Car Craft did a top 10 production V8 list once.
If i remember right the top engine was the 32V BMW V8, it made something like 395hp.
I cant remember what they put it in though.... my guess is the Z8? Woulda been badass in the M Coupe chassis.Comment

Ive always laguhed at the way Rednecks bragged about displacement and when BMW makes a 5L V8 they make as much HP as cock swagging americans with much more displacement.
Diego-Nice car. Arriba Argentina, loco. :)

I found GMs 4.2L in-line six to be interesting. They point out that most manufacturers are going with "V" motors for packaging reasons.....but the straight six config has proven to be a better performer. It is a shame that this engine is only being used in mid-sized SUVs. It needs to find its way into a car platform.

i wish it would too. unfortunately, historically, inline-six sports-car platforms tend to be expensive enough to develop and distribute that they basically price themselves out of the admittedly narrow enthusiast market that they'd best serve. see: any current-model 3-series with a six, toyota supra... ok, i can't come up with any other examples, but yeah, it sucks. pontiac solstice with a 4.2 inline six would be a hell of a beast.Originally posted by Jon325iI found GMs 4.2L in-line six to be interesting. Skylines for decades, too. Looks like they're selling out for the R35 though.Originally posted by dksee: any current-model 3-series with a six, toyota supra... ok, i can't come up with any other examples
Interesting. The M54 isn't gaining any cubes in the E90, but does at least get the Valvetronic. I wonder if it (3.0 I-6, don't know the new code) will return to the list afterwards.BMW AG
3L DOHC I-6 (330i Performance Package)
235 hp/222 lb.-ft.
For: Makes V-6s feel like Mix Masters.
Against: We say again: needs more cubes.
Bottom line: Waiting for Valvetronic, DI.
3.2L DOHC I-6 (M3)
333 hp/262 lb.-ft.
For: With 104 hp/L, you have to ask?
Against: Edgy driveability; soon to die.
Bottom line: Technical masterpiece.Comment
