Haha.... ouch, very ouch. So lets see what $45K can buy us....... 850csi (less then 200 sold in the US), any M3.... pic one, any M5, except showroom brand new.... pic one, ummm just about any classic bimmer from the 70s to the late 80s, you know the names. You could most likely import any euro M3 you'd like except the e46. Dude fro 45K you could almost get any bimmer you want from the last 30 years. Holy crap... fro that much money... i could buy an e30 M3 drop an e46 M3 motor in it (runs about $19K), and probably turbo it. Dont give me that not an enthusiast crap..... i, just like the rest of you spend unpractical amounts of money into my e30. 45 grand equals a lot of stuff you could do to an e30 or any other bimmer for that matter. Any person that has only 45K to spend on a car and gets a 12,000 mile e30 M3 is a dumbass. And any person who believes that draws a line btw enthusiast and not, is a dumbass.

Where you finding 850CSi's for 45k? That's 840ci territory for newer ones, the CSi's still fetch 65+k.

As for the bubble car, this thing is a disassembled to the bare parts restoration with 12k original miles, BMW wanted to buy that car and put it in their museum in Munich. It's a collector car, and is essentially a museum peice.

As TJ said, you're not an e30 M3 enthusiast, you just wouldn't get it.

Oh man.... read my post again. In fact nevermind.... here:

"Any person that has only 45K to spend on a car and gets a 12,000 mile e30 M3 is a dumbass. And any person who believes that draws a line btw enthusiast and not, is a dumbass."

lets look at it again........... "Any person that has only 45K to spend on a car."

That was my point.... the car is hot and rare........ If i had millions like ummm i dunno BMW USA, i would def. collect cars, and would dish out 45K without thinking twice. All i said in my first post was that for that money i would rather have an e46 M3. Currently i dont have 45 grand and if i were magically to have just that, i would buy an e46. So next time.... how about we actually read someone's post. As far as the 850csi.... its on roadfly fro 50 grand. And yes my friend, its a csi.

edit: TJ never said i wasn't an E30 M3 enthusiast... he said i wasnt' an E30 enthusiast.

You're not an e30 M3 enthusiast, those guys are odd ducks. Notice, I didn't say I would buy that car either. 45k for that car is insane.

That being said, if I wanted a museum quality e30 M3, I';d be all over that car. 45k would get me a lot of other cars though. Most likely ones with a P-car badge. Or a little british two seater with a toyota motor in the back.

wow, this topic is getting violent.

here's the way i see it... that car is no longer a "car", but a museum piece. it would be foolish if someone just bought that car to drive it. if i had 45k, it would not go towards that e30 m3. i am not a collector, 'n the enjoyment of looking at the bubble car in my garage would not give me anywhere the amount of satisfaction out of driving an e30 (let alone an e30 m3).

its a nice thing, 'n a great piece for a museum, or european car collector, but thats about it. i don't see why this thread has to bring so much violence, callin people non-e30 enthusiasts 'n shit. u people are crazy.

Fair enough, but who ever said someone with only 45k to spend on a car would buy it? Very few cars for over $40k go to people who only have that much to spend, it's that they choose to spend that much. And of course you're not gonna lease or finance that baby, we're talking cold hard cash, so people with 45 cash laying around would almost never spend every dime they have set aside for a car (their only car?) on a used car that doesn't make much sense to drive anywhere. Sorry, I don't see your point at all, it appears that there really isn't one.

For $45k, that thing had better bring the freakin Olsen Twins, Dahm Triplets and Catherine Zeta-Jones!

Yeah, or you could not drop another engine into, as that is far from the original intentions of the car. If you want a torquey engine, go buy an E36.

I don't know, i'm a drive it whenever kind of guy.

If i were to have an extra 45K, i'd drive the SHIT out of it. Winter rain, ice, sleet. But thats me. If i spend 45k on a "like-new" BMW e30 M3, to get the feeling the people did when they bought them right off the lot, i would drivr it every day, just to feel good. I would get every last dime out of that M3.

I'm also the kind of guy who if i had a Ferrari 360 modena, i'd drive it in the winter. I enjoy the things i have. If i have it, i'm going to use it, because you only know you're alive today.

I collect things don't get me wrong, but things that cannot be "used" per se. Like Baseball cards or something, sure i could put them in the spokes of my e30 to sound like a motorcycle. But they were made for coolecting. Cars were made for driving. Treat today as if tomorrow doesn't exist. You'll be happier.
