unless someone with knowledge in fluid dynamics can chime in here and give you the flow rates of dual 2.25" and what would be an equivalent flow rate in a single inlet, i would stick to dual 2.25" in.
i have no knowledge in fluid dynamics, so im just throwing this out there. but i'd go to at least a 2.75", if not a 3" for the inlet if you make it a single. but as i said, i think sticking to dual 2.25" in is ideal.AWD > RWD

the actual dimension is in MM, I don't remember exactly, I just know it's close to 1 7/8". I think that's OD.
The cross sectional area of a single 2.25" muffler would be reduced by over an inch and a half from stock.
