    Megasquirt Mayhem. Please Help.

So me and my buddy were out driving around in my e30, computer plugged into the megasquirt, making minor adjustments and experimenting a bit.. and we changed something and the car stalled. We changed it right back and burned it to the ECU, and the car wouldn't start. Everything we changed was restored to original settings as well..

The engine would catch but wouldn't stay on and the exhaust smelled strongly of gas. Feels like there wasn't enough gas or the spark timing was wrong..

    WHAT THE FUCK!?!!?!

I have had similar incidents... Usually I can go back and re-open and re-burn the file.. Hopefully you are saving files along the way as you make changes so you have backups of what was working previously...

Re-flash firmware and then burn the last known good msq if just reloading the msq doesn't fix it.

You may have to rewrite the firmware. Did you try flood clearing it when it was flooded? If it caught, it would eventually run for a very short time, and you would at least know that ignition was working correctly.

okay, got the car started, loaded another tune and it worked. however while we were experimenting yesterday and screwed up, we were trying to fix this weird thing my car is doing.

when it runs smoothly, the AFR at idle i hovers around 4, however it switches every once in a while, not sure why, and drops even further. anyone know what the problem is?

4? do you mean 14? if it's reading 4 you haven't calibrated your O2 sensor correctly.

it was at 14.7 but once it heated up, it dropped down to 4 and at some points even 3 or 2, its kindof surprising that the car was still running.

That has to be an error, either in the calibration of your sensor or the sensor is bad itself. Usually you don't read below 10:1. What sensor do you have? Wideband or narrowband?

have you connected directly to the Innovate to see what it's reading? I'm willing to bed your AFR calibration in Megasquirt is wrong or hasn't been done.

haven't connected it to the innovate.. how would i do that? is it possible that i need to replace the o2 sensor?

with the serial cable it came with. If you don't have the CD that came with it anymore, you can download the instruction manual from Innovate. It tells you how to set everything up. :)

I really doubt the sensor is bad - even if it were, the default programming doesn't read below ~9:1. 4:1 is so far off the chart it has to be calibration.
