    Intro/Crash Course on e30's

So score one for the bimmer crowd lol

I recently joined as this Sunday I will be selling my 94 Integra GSR and buying an 87 325es. Very pumped and I have been trying to pick up a little here and a little there but had more questions on stuff I hadn't really seen a thread on.. and instead of posting 10 different threads... I figured I would throw one here since I have loads to learn.

This is what I had... (pic not taken by me)

What I will be starting with...

Plans are drop and wheels to start with along with some clean up, thinking about painting all the trim black, like along the windows and all.

Now to the questions (might be newbish... don't try to laugh too hard :))

    1) On headlight brows, are they all aftermarket? or did it start as oem and then spread. Also how do they mount? Like if I'm buying a set used do I need to make sure it comes with hardware.

    2) Looked into putting a "i" head on my "e" block (later learned this is a S-eta), is it pretty basic?

This is the part list I have so far:
dme (quickly learned this is what honda guys call ecu's lol)
    harness
    injectors
    fuel pressure regulator
    head
    afm
    throttle body
    radiator (recommend to me)

It was recommended to me it would be cheaper to find a whole car and swap it over then to just piece it together.

    3) This is more of a verifying, on my 87, I should be able to bolt up a 88-91 front valance and bumper, except I would have to remove tow hooks. Is this correct?

I'll leave it at that for now lol, I hope to get a build thread started in a few days, very excited about joining the bimmer crowd and also have enjoyed the site so far. Also thanks for any info in advance

    1) Aftermarket and incredibly stupid. Eyebrows on BMWs are a classic sign of limited taste.

    2) Looks about right.

    3) Yes. But just remember that a late valence and plastic bumper looks incredibly stupid with a diving board rear.

      Eyebrows are gay.

And diving boards kick ass. You'll learn to love them. They're the only bumper you can drive into shit with and not care...at all.

Well on the front bumper deal, the car doesn't have any thing under the front bumper... I would eventually swap the rear bumper or tuck it.

You don't like brows? I kinda like em, haven't decided if I'm gunna do it or not yet though. Just to make sure I'm talking about the right thing, its deal trim that runs across the top of the grills correct?

eyebrows are a taste thing, they can look good if they are colormatched and carefully installed. Speaking of taste, so are DB's, you should see if you can get yourself an 84-87 iS front valence, and see how you like it.

Yeah I think I might try and look around for a iS valence first, if I do the brows the grill and brows will be resprayed at the same time so that the whole grill matches.

Now this is what I call an upgrade :nice:

Welcome to the world of all things E30. Don't go nuts with the styling....your money is better spent addressing worn/broken mechnical stuff. Get it running solid, add wheel/tire upgrade, some modest suspension tweeks & enjoy.

lol yeah I liked having an E30 + a stack of cash to spend on it instead of just my gsr... plus I was bored with the honda scene.

Yeah first thing done for sure will be shocks and springs and wheels. Also will be looking into maintence, I will need to do a timing belt & water pump but I figured that would be a good time to make it a s-eta since it would be apart anyways.

Also on a Bentley E30 manual, I like having a actual book I can look at while working (I did see the one online), on ebay they run about 50-60 shipped, is there any secret place to find one cheaper?

I thought you needed the 885 head to mate to the standard eta block?
