    E30 M3 rear calipers on my 318is?

    will the e30 m3 rear calipers fit on my 91 318is?

      there's nothing special about stock E30 M3 calipers anyway (single piston sliding caliper, heavy cast iron). The amount of work it would take to mount them is high enough that you may as well just get a BBK.

          the only reason i was gonna do the m3 rear calipers is because i need to do my rear calipers anyway, and akebono doesn't make rear pads for the e30 but the make them for the e30 m3 so i wanted to put the m3 ones on so i could have akebono euro in the rear. plus i have a new set of e30 m3 rear calipers sitting on my shelf.

              E30 rear brake rotor diameter: 258 mm
              E30 M3 rear brake rotor diameter: 280 mm

              The rear caliper will install onto the rear trailing arm. It won't be properly placed radially in relationship to the rear rotor, since the non-M rotor is 11 mm smaller in radius. Now, it would probably fit, and probably work OK, but definitely not ideally.

              It makes no sense to try to install incompatible parts, all because you want to use Akebono rear pads front and rear. Keep in mind, because of the larger brake diameter out back, you now have different brake balance front and rear, which completely invalidates trying to match pad compounds.

              My recommendation is, get PBR Ceramic pads for your stock rear brakes and call it a day. The friction properties will not vary radically from Akebono pads.

              If you do not understand what was typed here, here are Cliffs Notes:
              1. Forget E30 M3 rear brakes.
              2. Buy PBR Ceramic rear pads (non-M)
              3. Install them.

                thanks man i migh just try the PBR i just hate brake dust!!! and you no anyone who wants a new set of m3 rear calipers

                  btw, the E30m3 rear calipers will work on a non-m, but you need to source the 280mm rear rotors from a z1. Good luck finding a set.

                    if i did the rear m calipers and stock front how would my braking? would it be to much brakes for the rear? maybe get to light in the rear under hard high seppe braking? i dont no just wondering because like i said i need to do the rear calipers and i have a set of new m3 ones? and i would need the z1 rotors?
