How to get rid of non rolling chassis?

    Hey guys,
If you want to part a E30 and after you're done and it's not rolling (no wheels, on bricks or whatever), how do you get rid of it?

That takes forever. I speak from experience
I'm sure a plasma-cutter would make short work of a bare chassis, but when you only have a sawzal, it's a time consuming process.

Try calling local towing companies and see if they're willing to use a winch to drag the chassis onto a flatbed so it can go to a dump/wrecking yard.

I actually once saw a guy drive his beat up ass 70s Chevy truck to a shop and tie a tow rope to the two front hooks on an early e30 chassis. He then dragged the chassis on the frame rails down 10th street in San Diego. He took a corner and we never saw him again and didn't follow him. He did manage to put some rather large grooves into the road. :)

But yes, most tow trucks will just pull it up onto their bed with a wench.

I've parted out 3 E30's to bare non-rolling chassis everytime, and this is what I have done each time.

Make sure you have the title though, or no junkyard will touch it.

Won't matter with an absolutely bare chassis - no suspension.
No suspension means no wheels hubs and nothing for wheels to bolt onto

True dat. After I tore down my silver '89 325i and wanted to discard the bare chassis at a local metal scrap yard, they wouldn't give me the time of day unless I had the cars' title in hand. The same can be said for any auto salvage yard too.

Fail to do this and the DMV will continue to send registration renewal notices cause they think the car still exists.

Fail to pay those fees and they will take your tax returns or garnish your wages. Happened to someone I know.

Get a couple of burnt out tires, set the front end and rear end of the chassis up on them. Call a flatbed tow truck, they will literally drag it up their bed, then take it to a crusher or whatever. If you really want to make the truck drivers day, just hand him the title(i found a place that doesnt need the title) and tell him to keep what they give them for the scrap metal. I did that with my old e30, and no problems. You will probably spend like 20 bucks or something, but if you gotta get rid of it, do it. You probably also have to make sure the gas tank is off the car, i just had mine drained and when i called they said no gas tank, and no motor.

My first 2002 was hit on the gas filler fender and blew up. The fire wall worked in reverse. I retained the car but the insco totaled it. I removed everything that was useable (engine front suspension etc) and we cut it up put it in a truck and at 3am on a Sunday dumped it in front of a scrap yard in downtown L.A. This was about 1980 I never heard from anyone about it.

i stripped my 4door down to the body sitting on the ground with no suspension....i called a tow company and they put the front end on a cradle, and jacked up the rear, then the stupid driver takes off and never strapped down the front to the cradle, so the car came rite off the cradle and he dragged the frame for like 50ft...i was laughin my ass off...

edit: To haul away bare chassis', we put a jack under the rearend of the car, and have the tow truck winch the front up onto the flatbed. The jack keeps the car from scraping the ground while getting on the truck. If that's not a concern, the jack isn't necessary. just my .02
