    I'm running out of options...

Recently me 90 325i has been under the knife due to poor warm up running. I've tried and replaced numerous items to no avail. She starts and idles just fine and will pull well to approximately 2500. Then she'll buck like a stabbed mule until 3000 and run just fine through the rest of the powerband. All variations to throttle yield the same results. Then she reaches regular operating temperature and everything is kosher.

    So far I've:
    Intake bellows
    Plugs
    Bavauto Performance wires
New Fuel Injection Temp sensor(water temp sensor is only a year old and operates normally)
    Cap/Rotor
Cleaned AFM with mass air cleaner and found no binding in the flap motion
Inspected all grounds and vacuum lines
All injectors are operating with no signs of leaks
    1/2 can of seafoam

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Every day I wake up we drink a lot of coffee and watch the CNN
Every day I wake up to a bowl of clover honey and let the locusts fly in.
    Lobsterbacks attack the town again
Wrap all my things in aluminum
Beams of darkness streak across the sky
Pink rays from the ancient satellite
Every time I look out my window same three dogs looking back at me.
Every time I open my windows cranes fly in to terrorize me.

check and see if your tps is operating properly. Use a DMM to check the resistance across the connectors in closed and open position. bentley should give the operating specs??

only other thing i can think of would be defective maf. Ive seen all sorts of weird things happen especially at different engine speeds. (certain vibrations cause the problem)

not sure if this helps just some ideas

Yeah, I think worn traces on the AFM can cause this. There are some helpful writeups floating around about how to bend the wiper arm on the carbon resistor to avoid the "stabbed mule" phenomena.

I've questioned the tps, but am I wrong in thinking that wouldn't effect just warm up running?

I'll search for those writeups, but I'm a bit leery on breaking the seal on the AFM. I guess she had to be devirginized at some point. But I'm still thinking that if the traces were worn, it would do it all the time. Not just at warm up.

        Thanks for the info guys.

Perhaps a silly question, as I am still fairly new to E30s... Is there a seperate program in the ECU for warm-up running? I know this is the case in some cars...

you have to remember tho that resistance changes with temperature. So with that said the afm could very well be the issue. Ive seen this countless times. Maybe swap it with a well known working and see what happens.

That is where I was getting confused. I'll swap them and see if that is the problem. If so, I'm just going to swap to the miller maf kit.

On the 325e there is an Idle Control Module.

don't mess with the afm, you will probably fuck it up more. Look into e36 mass air flow units, they can be had for under 100 bucks and its a relatively easy install.

this may sound ridiculous, but is your heater core hooked up? my car used to drive really weird, while warming up, then i hooked my heat back up and the problem went away completely.

Heat is all connected. Thanks for the heads up though.

well in that case i'm gonna say, once you've run all out of options, replace your heater... doesn't that sound exciting?

I'm on board for a bad o2 sensor as well; when i was trouble shooting my car, i thought i needed an o2 sensor as well...

What the hell are you talking about? You just can't plug a MAF into an m20 and have it work, you need to reprogram the DME. The signals from an afm and a maf are completely different.
