NY winters, what oil for M20?

Hi guys, I'm gonna be in NY state this winter in my mtech cabrio. What oil should I be using this winter? 10w-30 or 0w-30 synthetic? Thanks.

Save your car and don't take it to NY. It will rust like a bitch. I went to college in Ithaca and everyone had a separate rustbucket beater for the winter. If the salt doesn't rust your car out, you'll hit a curb and f up your suspension. Front end shops do great business, and most people carry a tow rope to get hauled out of a snowbank / ditch.

Honestly, I'd consider M1 15w50. It's a bit wider temp range than 20w50 (see your owners manual), but the more important thing is that specific oil is M20 valvetrain friendly. That matters more to me than sneaking slightly outside the suggested temperature range.

I also highly recommend snow tires.

10W40. 15W50 or 20W50 for Spring, Summer and Fall.

Where in NY? Most of it isn't that bad. In fact there's usually more salt on the road then snow.

For the record I've never used snow tires in the 5 winters I've been driving here, and I've never had a problem.

I think if you keep the car clean you'll be fine for one winter.

Dude, I've lived my whole life in saskatchewan Canada. There's no prep you can do to a car to keep it from rusting out in snowy parts where they use salt on the roads. It doesnt' matter how hard you try, your car WILL rust on you.

I just pulled my e30 from storage in Sask. I can't believe I was considerin a mustang for it's RWD setup over my classic ride.

Does anyone know if they use salt in colorado? My car has a tad bit of rust on the rear valence were the paint was worn down from things being kicked up by the tires and it bagen to rust. I would reccomend snow tires or at least really good all seasons.

When I went skiing in the Silverthorne/Vail area they were using sand...

they probably use urea (synthetic cow piss) and sand. It's still a little corrosive but not nearly as bad as salt. it also fertilizes the sides of the roads keeping things green. ;)
